January 22, 2025 (Madison, AL) – The Highland Group is proud to announce the completion of a state-of-the-art, 10,000-square-foot indoor practice facility for James Clemens High School in Madison, Alabama. This cutting-edge facility is designed to support the athletic development of the school’s student-athletes and reflects Madison City Schools’ ongoing commitment to enhancing its athletic programs.

The new facility includes batting cages for baseball and softball training, locker rooms tailored for both the baseball and softball teams, team meeting spaces, laundry facilities, and coach offices to support the mentorship and leadership of the school’s athletes.

This indoor practice facility represents the latest milestone in a comprehensive effort by Madison City Schools to upgrade and expand athletic amenities at James Clemens High School. Since the school’s opening in 2012, Madison City Schools has made significant investments in its athletic infrastructure, including improvements to football fields, the track area, baseball practice fields, and the softball complex.

“The completion of this facility is a testament to our commitment to the long-term success of the student-athletes at James Clemens High School,” said Michael Barnes, Vice President of The Highland Group’s North Alabama division. “We are proud to have played a role in providing a space where athletes can train, grow, and build the foundations of teamwork and excellence.”

This project builds on The Highland Group’s history of collaboration with Madison City Schools, including the recent restoration of the iconic fighter jet that now serves as the school’s mascot. This project was a collaboration with several reputable design partners, including Nola VanPeursem Architects, PC as the architect; Johnson & Associates as the civil engineer; LBYD, Inc. as the structural engineer; Mechanical Design Services, Inc. as the mechanical engineer; and Hyde Engineering, Inc. as the electrical engineer.

James Clemens High School

James Clemens High school is a public high school in Madison, Alabama and is the second high school to be built as part of Madison City Schools. The school is named after the founder of Madison County, James Clemens. Established in 2012, the school offers access to over 70 organizations to its student body including their extensive music and athletic programs. Clemens’ has over 2,100 students in attendance including their marching band consisting of over 150 students, the schools’ JROTC Jet Battalion has over 100 cadets enrolled, and its various athletic programs are filled with award winning student athletes as well as coaches.
