At The Highland Group, we pride ourselves on having a team of dedicated professionals who bring both skill and passion to our clients’ projects. This month, we are excited to spotlight Matt Lundberg, a Project Manager for the Alabama Gulf Coast market. In this role, Matt consistently shows his commitment to excellence and leadership, and we are proud to highlight his journey and insights.
What Matt Enjoys Most About His Role
As a Project Manager, Matt thrives in a fast-paced environment where he can tackle challenges head-on and help guide projects to success. He finds fulfillment in both the day-to-day management and in seeing the tangible results of hard work.
Memorable Moments at The Highland Group
While his favorite moments are when he sees projects come together, he also enjoys the daily achievements and teamwork that make everything possible.
After Hours Pursuits
When Matt isn’t on a job site or working through project schedules and budgets, you can find him on the field coaching kids’ football, basketball, and soccer. His passion for mentoring young athletes parallels his leadership style at work. In addition to coaching, Matt enjoys working on home improvement projects, restoring motorcycles, and reading.
“GOOD” Inspiration
Matt draws inspiration from a simple but powerful motto: “GOOD.” Coined by retired Navy SEAL Jocko Willink, this one-word mantra reminds Matt to embrace challenges and setbacks as opportunities for growth. “Even the worst problem can be turned into a learning experience or a chance to get better,” Matt explains. As a project manager, Matt uses this guiding principle to navigate complex problems for our clients and operate from a solutions-oriented mindset.
Fun Fact
Did you know Matt’s best friend is a Buddhist monk? A few years ago, he had the unique opportunity to live as the monks do during his friend’s ordination ceremony. This experience gave Matt a deeper appreciation for other cultures, and it remains one of his most memorable life experiences.
Matt’s Advice for New Team Members
Matt has one piece of advice for anyone new to The Highland Group: Ask questions. “They say there’s no such thing as a dumb question. That’s not true,” Matt jokes. “Some questions are dumb. But ask the questions anyway. Even the dumb ones.” His humor aside, Matt encourages new employees to jump in headfirst and embrace Highland’s culture of #getstuffdone.
